On Monday, November 3, 2009 a memorandum of understanding was signed in Paris on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Liberia. Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of France, HE Ambassador Mohammed Jahm Al-Kuwari, attended the signing ceremony on behalf of the State of Qatar, while HE McKinley Thomas, ambassador of Liberia to France represented the Republic of Liberia. His Excellency Jibril Bassole, the United Nations and African Union Representative in Darfur also attended the signing ceremony.

Diplomatic relations were established between the two countries in November 2009 at ambassadorial level.

The embassy of the State of Qatar was opened in Monrovia in November 2012.
